A blast from the past Located in a period house, which has maintained its original layout, the Bread Museum, through interesting details, meticulously reconstructs the daily methods of the early 1900s.

Carasau bread:

Originally cooked for a few seconds in a wood-fired oven: this was the “Carasau” bread, a typical Sardinian recipe, based on durum wheat flour or barley flour, which each family prepared for their own needs. A fragrant and crunchy pastry that retained its freshness for a long time.

The Orgosolo Bread Museum is located in the center of the town along Corso Repubblica, the main street where approximately 90% of the murals are present. The Museum is located inside a building almost 2 centuries old (the latest evidence refers to 1848) which has remained intact in its beauty and typicality of the buildings of the period.

THE BREAD

The Museum, in addition to the structural peculiarity, also offers the complete exhibition of the tools used in that period for the production of the typical bread of Orgosolo “Su Pane Tostu” (Bread Carasau). Every day you can personally participate in the production of bread in all its phases, guided by Orgolese bread masters.

THE HOUSE

Inside, distributed in the other rooms, there is a double bedroom “sa camera de lettu”, a reception room “sa huhina” and a covered courtyard “sa horte”. The furnishings of the period remain as a historical memory of how a 19th century family was organized inside their home. Furthermore, to confirm the main gift of the Orgolese, that is, pro s’istranzu (foreign guest) hospitality, you can immerse yourself in a tasting of the typical bread accompanied by an excellent cheese produced by the local shepherds.
