Rifugio Sa Masonarja

Make Me Italy has chosen Sa Masonarja:
  • For its fantastic paths.
  • For the uncontaminated forests, unique archaeological sites, and naturalistic sites in the world.
  • For its comprehensive sustainability and zero-impact structures.
  • For its natural artisanal foods derived from intact, unchanged, and pure raw materials.

At a thousand meters above sea level, amidst the ancient paths of the supramontane shepherds, immersed in the truest Sardinia, the refuge is an extraordinary place to stay and depart from to venture into the discovery of the Sas Baddes forest, the Nuraghe Mereu (a magnificent example of Nuragic art located in the heart of the limestone massif), the Gorroppu Gorge (canyon with high vertical walls), or the Nuragic village of Tiscali, built inside a karst sinkhole.

On horseback, by mountain bike, or E-bike, this is the base camp from which to explore unique corners and panoramas, among paths rich with the scents of wild aromatic herbs, always present in roasts, cured meats, and cheeses that can be tasted inside the characteristic “pinnetti” (ancient stone and wood-built sheepfolds) in contact with the local shepherds.
